Task 6: Draft Statement of Intent:

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)

Product 1

My magazine is called Platinum and its front cover and contents page will feature sophisticated language which will appeal to the target demographic of high-end fashion lovers, aged between 18-35. The main model on the front cover would also have direct address, as it gives a masculine feel to the magazine, which is essential, as having a sense of masculinity would give the reader confidence, which is what this magazine represents. Also, there are lots of different types of shots and angles, which includes medium shots, close-up shots, long shots etc.

As this magazine is based on men's fashion, the majority of models used would be male, and would represent the male target audience which also promotes high-end fashion, but with a hint of street style. This will be evident through the use of expensive brands, including shirts, jumpers, jackets and jewellery, which would also be advertised. This magazine aims to give its readers a sense of confidence which can be expressed through wearing the latest brands, reading up on tips on grooming and many more other interesting articles which would entice the target audience to carry on reading.

My magazine would also be circulated all around the UK and will be published by Current Publishing, which is one of the biggest magazine publishers in the UK. Also, with the success of the UK version, the magazine would spread into North America, specifically the USA, where men’s magazines such as GQ are very popular, and therefore, Platinum would be its biggest international rival

Product 2

For the website of my magazine, I must use the correct media language which follows the correct media codes and conventions of my web design. This will start with using the logo of my magazine and having a menu bar with social media bars where there are links embedded within them where it takes them to the social media accounts. Allowing social media allows the readership reach to reach a much broader audience as younger people are using social media, and this could probably be where the love for fashion may start.

Platinum's web design will also be smart and simple, which would not be saturated by colour and will have a clean and simple look, but will have a distinguished design which would make it different compared to other websites. This website is perfect at representing the target audience as many males aged from 18-35 use the internet and would be introduced to fashion websites, which could help them keep up with the latest trends. Also, the website advertises events where fashion shows for men can take place, as there is rarely any fashion shows exclusively for men. My magazine would have a new issue being released every month and reader can sign up with their emails and be notified when each issue is released and will describe the main themes and topics with that issue. Also, individuals who sign up will have exclusive content sent to them through email which could be in the form of exclusive interviews, videos and much more. This also gives readers who have signed up a chance to enter exclusive prize draws, which could include tickets to events, interviews with celebrities and clothing before its release.

How do you intend to link your media products demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production?

Platinum will have a consistent brand image across all products and social media. A branding which demonstrates and highlights that the magazine and website are both promoting the same product and that they are intended for the same target audience. This will be explored through the consistent use of the same models, brands, shot types and the use of my logo on both the website and magazine. This will ensure that my product will reach my chosen demographics and will reach and tap into new audiences which may have not been targeted at first due to the use of the website being readily available for anyone to access. Also, I will keep the same logo, fonts and typefaces it would be associated with my magazine anytime the reader would view the website, as they can make a link between the two, thus creating synergy. I also plan on using a serif font as this is very consistent in high-end fashion magazines all over the globe. I also plan to link both magazine and website by allowing exclusive content to be advertised on the magazine, and this will include exclusive interviews, behind the scene extras, and also in-depth clips on modelling shoots. This technique will hopefully create synergy and brand loyalty between both magazine and webpage.
